Cottage Monday and Victoria

The Victorian era has always fascinated me and when I discovered Victoria magazine, it helped to define some of the decorating ideas that were in my head.
With clips from Victoria, I'll show the influence the magazine has had to inspire the decor of our home.

For instance, crisp white linens and accessories weren't practical with young children but now they can be used without too much worry.

The white lace duvet cover doesn't get put on very often because of little paw prints.  As a matter of fact Topaz likes to think he's a goat somethimes and will head butt the pillows onto the floor.

These hats are perfect for an afternoon garden party.

My favourite Bonnielle straw hat that I wear to garden parties.  Bonnielle is located in the Niagara region and I have another style of hat from her too.  Once I attended an afternoon tea where she was a speaker showing us how to, and not to, wear hats and brought lots of them for us to try on.  That was a lot of fun.
A decorated Victorian hat that hangs on a bedroom door here.

A bit of lace around the window and held by wrought iron hearts has a Victorian flare too and I use many wrought iron pieces for accent, especially outside which I'll show another time.

The chair in this photo is an antique we had recovered and represents the Victorian style very well I think with the feminine aspect of the heart shape and lace on the pillow.

The Victorian style is so pretty isn't it! Now my kids are getting a bit older I might look into getting some white linen.

Best wishes,
Natasha.

Good morning, Judith.
I love the bedroom the way you've decorated it, and that hats are just a perfect addition. Wouldn't it be lovely to have all the hats featured in that Victoria Magazine photo? I haven't gotten a copy in a little while, I'll have to renew my subscription.

I hope you have a lovely day,
Susan
