A Miracle

August 1991; it had been a crazy party of teens with loud music around a backyard pool.  A boy playfully pushes his girlfriend in the water and the events that unfold with affect the life of everyone there.
Sandra hit her head when she was pushed in, fracturing her C4 and C5 vertebrae and severing her spinal cord.  She would spend the next 12 months in the hospital, a quadriplegic.
The local grocery store was closing down for the night and as daughter #1 cleaned up the deli where she worked, she contemplated going to the pool party her friends were at.  No, she was too tired and came home instead.  We are lucky she did.
After Sandra's accident there were many tears from friends and family.  And broken relationships.  For Sandra's parents sued the parents of every child that had been at the pool party...it was about responsibility.
Fast forward to 2012 and daughter #1 has 4 children of her own and is a labour and delivery nurse; it would seem this is her calling.  She called me recently one day excited and asked if I had heard about Sandra.
I knew this determined girl had learned to live with her disability, had achieved a Masters degree and drove a van with hand controls.  I'd lost touch with her aunt so didn't know she got married 7 years ago.
A miracle had happened.  Not only did Sandra get pregnant but she gave birth by C-Section to twin baby girls.  More tears, and all of happiness for Sandra to have her dream come true.
